Should you learn web development?

I know some friends that for every idea they have they plan to build a website with the dream that one day they will start monetizing on it after it reaches a certain scale. The idea is not wrong at all – this is a pretty realistic thought we all dream about having all our ideas productive at some point in life – but the thing is that if you know anything about webdesign or development the dream can become a nightmare. Many people use to think that just because they have found a code – a program script – this will do the thing they want in their website; They even suggested copy it and paste it and Bingo! the web is running. When in some cases we developers do tasks like that, and yes some of it works, learning web development involves a little more than copying, pasting, modifying, and hosting code.

It’s totally true, you can learn web development for your small projects, and really have some good ideas online in a couple of days, having the creativity, intention, connection, and books or videos to guide you through the process. There are simple things you can enjoy doing by yourself and adjusting to your needs. However, to have a website that will give that twist of professionalism and comply with standard behaviors, rules and more, you actually need more than basic knowledge on copying and pasting what you find. There are times you’d better try doing the easiest tasks yourself first, and would probably need to consider hiring, contracting or consulting someone to help you with the hardest parts later. This way of working besides smart is, for many people, gratifying; usually both parts, the contractor and the client, enjoy working as a team getting a virtual project alive. For example, You will learn a lot from the person you hire – hopefully if you find the right fit to your style and personality – and also, professional developers or designers already know how it feels finding projects and working with client who is interested not only in getting it done but in absorbing everything possible to maintain this project at best and updated; good designers and developers serve as a type of mentor who like boosting their clients desires to continue learning on this. By visualizing this style of working, you realize that the learning process in here is practically mutual. In some cases, most developers find exciting to be able to debate projects with clients who know what they’re talking about, and this translate into getting more meaningful businesses πŸ™‚

Learning web development can be accomplished in many levels as you have the impulse and time to dig into it. There are, however, important things to ponder before starting: How much money are you able to save, spend or invest in this project?, what type of techniques are you interesting on learning first?, what will you use to guide you through you understanding?, what are your goals with this learning process?, will you want to learn to market your knowledge, skills, or website?, how will you be able to make it profitable?, and it’s really profitability a matter of interest to you?, and a few more stuffs you will become familiar if you desire your website be successfully built and marketed.

Don’t leave your beliefs of lack of ‘certain’ knowledge stop your dreams become reality, but be clear of your expectations, enthusiasm and commitment you’re pouring into your projects before moving into the next step, that could probably be forgetting about the project at all for a while or hiring someone else to finish it.

Have a great night to you.
